My Story

After HS graduation, I went to ODU for 1 year and then moved with a friend to Ottawa, Canada to evade the draft. I established landed immigrant status so I could work as a governess for 3 lovely children ages 9, 4, 2. In 1974, after Nixon resigned, I returned to Arlington, briefly working at a preschool directed by my former Yorktown teacher of the Child Development class, Judy Seiff.
I moved to Michigan to continue my college education so I could pursue my passion teaching children with disabilities as a Special Educator. My future husband and I traveled drove, hiked, backpacked across Canada and the US hoping to find employment but I returned to Virginia, taught 1 year in Clifton Forge in an elementary school selfcontained classroom for children with socialemotional and behavioral challenges. My husband and I moved to the Oregon coast, married, and worked for 9 years in Coos Bay North Bend. Both of our children were born in Coos Bay. I taught Special education at the elementary and high school levels. In 1985, I earned my Masters degree in Education from University of Oregon. John worked as an environmental educator for South Slough Estuarine Sanctuary. In1987, John accepted a manager position at the Nature Center at Snake Lake in Tacoma Washington.
We have lived in Tacoma since that time. I taught special education for 4 years K2nd an inclusive program in Steilacoom. 16 years in University Place School District. I retired in 2013 after my last 4 years as a teacher trainer for Headstart Tacoma School District.
John retired from his position as Conservation Education Manager for Point Defiance Zoo Aquarium in Metropolitan Park District a couple years later. In 2015 we moved from our home for 28 years to live in our dream one story view home with spectacular views of Puget Sound and the Olympic mountains. We have our granddaughters over as much as possible. Were going to Alaska this summer.
